Spring

This is the first installment of a four part series based on the seasons.  Hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them.

Spring brings an end to winter's biting cold.

The days grow longer, the temperature increases.

Snow melts on the mountaintops

Swelling the rivers and lakes.

See the men in their garages

Tuning up the lawn mowers and fixing broken sprinklers.

The grass will be growing, green and lush again.

Leaves reappear on the trees, verdant and new.

Flowers start to bud, then burst into bloom.

Whole fields take on new vibrant hues and tones.

Farmers plow their fertile fields, and sow seeds,

Ready to grow a new sumptuous crop.

In the parks and on the trails

The enthusiastic runners appear.

Enjoying the warming air

As they travel the long miles.

Spring break and the children are out of school.

Playing in the new grass, they climb trees to forts.

The rebirth of the weather and the land,

Drives them to a new exuberance of life.

Spring is also a time for lovers.

Park benches hold them as they kiss.

The sights and scents of new flowers bathe them,

But they only see and smell each other.

Walking hand in hand down the beach,

Feeling the sand between their toes,

Gazing out at the ocean waves,

They keep each other close and safe.

Families think of play and picnic

Spreading the checkered blankets wide.

Fried chicken and potato salad

Cold drinks on a warm afternoon.

Enjoy the lengthening of the days.

Enjoy the cold weather turning warm again.

Enjoy the smells and tastes of spring.

Enjoy the times with your lover.
